The story of Roses for Autism is in its name. Located in the picturesque town of Guilford, Connecticut, at the historic Pinchbeck greenhouses, we grow and sell a variety of beautiful roses and other fresh cut flowers within a dynamic business that employs individuals living with Autism and provides career training and mentorship to transition age youth.
We believe that all people - like roses - blossom when given both opportunity and support. At Roses for Autism, youth experience what it’s like to have their very first job and work in all areas of the business, from the greenhouse to e-commerce. With the encouragement of our dedicated team, these youth discover their unique strengths and interests while learning the necessary social and professional skills to achieve meaningful employment and personal success!
Roses for Autism was founded in 2009 by Ability Beyond, a cutting-edge non-profit organization providing community based services for people with disabilities throughout Connecticut and New York. In conjunction with the Pinchbeck family and local parents, Roses for Autism has carried on a four generation tradition of commercial rose growing. We offer 16 varieties of fresh, full-blooming fragrant roses, 3 varieties of lilies, and colorful gerbera daisies in our retail store, online, and at area farmers markets in Greenwich, New Haven, and Hartford.
Local patrons can visit the farm 6 days a week and buy our renowned Pinchbeck flowers for themselves or a loved one, and watch our business in action. Other customers can order special occasion and everyday "thinking of you" gifts for next-day shipping anywhere in the continental U.S., or request floral arrangements to welcome attendees at meetings, conventions, dinners, and other special events.
We like to say that we are a small business with a big mission! Autism Spectrum Differences (ASD) are diagnosed in 1 in 68 children in the United States. Currently, 88% of adults with Autism are unemployed or underemployed. At Roses for Autism, we are changing that statistic every day!
As a sustainable social enterprise, each purchase buys so much more than just flowers…
- Provides real work experience for individuals with Autism
- Creates opportunities for learning and growth
- Contributes to our scholarship program
- Fosters meaningful employment and personal success
“People can buy flowers everywhere, but when they choose to purchase flowers from us, they are supporting local business, preserving CT heritage, giving youth opportunities to succeed, and getting our amazing fragrant roses. That’s a powerful twenty dollars!” - Michelle Ouimette, Managing Director
