CTP Goals & Services
Our goals for the Roses for Autism's Career Training Program are to:
- Support students with autism between the ages of 18 and 22 in their transition years in learning basic job skills necessary for employment in real-life settings
- Help adults with autism be prepared for successful job placement through evaluation, the obtaining of both "hard" and "soft" skills, and mentorship through the employment application process
- Provide students with autism between the ages of 16 and 17 an opportunity to gain experience in an operation business environment and participate in constructive activities after school/on weekends with peers without autism
- Provide an inclusive workforce made up of individuals on and off the autism spectrum in the fields of agriculture, production, retail/customer service, e-marketing/IT, and related industries
- Encourage businesses and industries to better understand autism so they are willing/able to provide reasonable accommodations for neurologically atypical employees
- Become "the" most successful and replicable model for facilitating future employment of individuals with autism
CTP services include:
- Development of an Individualized Career Plan to identify a job search direction and a job-finding process, created by the young adult with input from his/her family and support from CTP and school-based staff
- On-site assessment of skills, interests, and abilities
- Arranging job try-outs and job-shadowing experiences on-site
- Time-limited job skills training, such as computer skills training, on-site or individualized in other inclusive community settings
- Help with developing a resume or a portfolio for prospective employers
- Job development assistance, including locating and talking to employers about jobs and the hiring process
- Job coach assistance in the workplace, with a focus on learning job tasks, adjusting to job requirements, and ensuring a stable, ongoing employment experience
- Follow-up support to the worker and employer
- Assistance in arranging accommodations that may be needed on the job
- Assistance with arranging transportation, including heping people access "travel-training" opportunities
- Provide information and guidance to various community audiences on public benefits of employing adults with autism, the important role earning an income plays on the quality of autistic people's lives, and how to assure employment of those with autism is successful
